Los Bandidos is a nine-piece Latin Jazz band from Wellington, formed four years ago by graduates from the New Zealand School of music. Their repertoire includes essentially Cuban rhythms like Rumba, Guaracha or Cha-Cha – perfect for the people to dance and have a party. With three horn players, a trumpet player, various percussionists, and a fantastic vocalist, Los Bandidos were the whole charm of the mild summer night in the Botanic Gardens. People of all ages were were relaxing in the grass or swinging their hips to the Afro-Cuban sounds. It always fascinates me how many young families bring along their kids to music events around Wellington. Even on evenings during the week when the performance doesn’t finish before 10pm there is young and old showing off their dancing moves.
