Agitator played at the Rogue and Vagabond last friday, which was just the perfect event to start the weekend. The Rogue & Vagabond is a relatively new craft beer bar in Wellington, just off Cuba Street, in Glover Park. There is a sheltered outside area, a cosy lounge area and enough space to hit the dance floor or chill out at the bar. Agitator is a duo featuring the guitar and vocal talent of Nikita Tu Bryant (plays with the Spooky) and Ed Zuccollo on synthesisers plus collaborations with various drummers and saxophonist (this time Chris Buckland was on the sax).
Their music can be described as atmospheric funk, a mix of danceable, funky grooves and mellow ambient tunes. Their repertoire included original songs as well as some covers. My favourite cover was a brilliant funk number of the King’s of Leon’s King of the Rodeo (originally covered by the Bamboos, a soul/funk band from Melbourne). People enjoyed the funky tunes at the dance floor or the bar, obviously saddened after Agitator finished their last song. I definetely want to see and hear them again – especially after I saw Ed Zuccolo playing both, bass and a funky solo on his synthesiser at the same time.
Next time to see Agitator play is tomorrow, Friday 23rd of August, at Meow.
